The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Staff Manufacturing Engineer. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of hands-on technical expertise, project management skills, and leadership abilities. They will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment, with a focus on robotics, automation, and material flow optimization. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers and subcontractors, ensuring the timely and cost-effective execution of projects while maintaining high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategies to optimize production processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
  • Lead the manufacturing engineering department, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to engineers and subcontractors.
  • Facilitate Value Stream Mapping exercises to identify opportunities for process improvement, streamline workflow, and minimize non-value-added activities that contribute to waste.
  • Design and engineer manufacturing equipment, including robotics, automation systems, and heavy machinery, with a focus on material flow optimization and productivity enhancement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate manufacturing processes with product design for manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain operations.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new manufacturing initiatives, proposing solutions to address technical challenges.
  • Forecast & Oversee the selection and procurement of manufacturing equipment and technologies, evaluating vendors and negotiating contracts.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, and standard operating procedures.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in manufacturing engineering, robotics, and automation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, implementing lean principles and driving initiatives to enhance operational excellence.
  • Utilize statistical process control (SPC) methods to monitor and analyze manufacturing processes, identify trends, and implement corrective actions as necessary to minimize scrap rates and enhance process efficiency.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in problem-solving activities utilizing methodologies such as A3s, root cause analysis, and process optimization techniques to address root causes of waste and scrap.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on robotics, automation, and heavy equipment design.
  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects in a manufacturing environment. (Combining Mechanical design / Electrical design / Control logic and deployment)
  • Extensive hands-on experience with CAD/CAM systems, (such as SolidWorks, Catia, CamWorks, etc..) for designing manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Strong knowledge of robotics, automation technologies, control systems, and PLC programming.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a collaborative and results-driven approach to team management.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive ROI analyses for large equipment purchases and capital investments.
